A total menswear concept has emerged from the brainchild of Bob Makan, who had a driving vision for a business at an early age during his academic years at London University.

Having learnt the tailoring skills from his father, ranging from carrying out odd alterations to mastering the art of pattern cutting, Bob, developed skills to transform a mere sketch into a fully fitted garment. This boosted his ego to offer made-to-measure services to his fellow students, which over time, progressed into a full time business, running from home.

In 1974, he opened his first shop outlet in Cork Street – Leicester, specialising in Men’s Bespoke tailoring, which in due course, expanded into individually tailored suits and trousers.

By now, Bob was confident and eager to expand and in 1980, got his brother, Ram to join the business. Ram who went to a Design College, brought the knowledge of Fashion and Forthcoming trends. Together, they opened their second shop on Evington Road – Leicester, uplifting their image by stocking top brands, such as Farah, Gabicci, Wranglers, Levi’s and Double-two shirts and renamed the business to Stylex Fashions.

With business flourishing, in 1985, they acquired their third branch on Melton Road - Leicester, adding more brands such as Pierre Cardin, Burberrys and many more, and took on more staff. However, within the next few years, they realised the need to have a modern showroom in the heart of the Asian Shopping Centre – Belgrave Road - Leicester. This resulted in the opening of their fourth shop in 1988, specialising in top fashions and wedding wear for the discerning men. By now, having made a major impact in the retail menswear industry, they were well established as a multiple chain, alongside other major stores and were accredited as being major stockists of wedding attire for the men.
